Shillong, June 18: Paralympic medallist and celebrated Indian para-archer Sheetal Devi has lauded Meghalaya’s strong focus on sports development and expressed confidence that the state’s young athletes have the potential to shine on both national and international stages.
During her visit, Sheetal said she was impressed by Meghalaya’s sporting culture and the importance given to disciplines such as archery. “I am visiting Meghalaya for the first time, and I am very happy to see how much importance is given to sports here, especially archery, which is also my sport. It is encouraging to see the government’s commitment towards nurturing talent,” she said.
Referring to the vision shared by Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma for the future of sports in the state, Sheetal noted that the investments and initiatives being undertaken by the government would create opportunities for young athletes to excel.
“As the Chief Minister mentioned, a lot is being done for sports. In the coming years, many athletes from Meghalaya will move forward and proudly raise the Tricolour for the country,” she added.
Sheetal also presented an inspirational book containing 100 stories to the Chief Minister, explaining that reading similar stories had motivated her own sporting journey. She expressed hope that the book would reach schools and inspire children to dream big and pursue their goals.
Delivering a message to the youth, Sheetal said, “No one has any shortcomings; all that is needed is hard work. Keep working hard, and your efforts will surely bear fruit.”
Young sportspersons were inspired by her words and the optimism she expressed for life.
