Tura, Aug 2: Danakgre Youth Sports and Cultural Association (DYSCA) booked their place in the Tura Football League (TFL) First Division final after edging Chandmari Football Club in a dramatic penalty shootout on Saturday, while the second semi-final was postponed due to technical issues and fading light.
After an entertaining 2-2 draw in regulation time, DYSCA kept their composure from the penalty spot to register a 5-4 shootout victory and become the first team to qualify for the championship match.
DYSCA made a flying start, taking the lead through Jesfill Sangma in just the second minute before Bentom Marak doubled the advantage in the 28th minute.
Chandmari FC responded strongly before the break as Tengrik R. Marak reduced the deficit in the 40th minute. Songnan Shaiza then restored parity in the 62nd minute, ensuring the contest finished level at 2-2.
With neither side able to find a winner in normal time, the match was decided by penalties, where DYSCA emerged victorious 5-4.
Both Jeshbell Ch. Marak of Chandmari FC and DYSCA’s Jesfill Sangma were shown yellow cards for misconduct during the match.
The second semi-final between Achapara Balmikka and Kalkame Football Association, however, could not be played as scheduled after technical problems delayed proceedings and poor light made it unsafe to continue.
Following discussions with tournament organisers, club officials expressed concerns over the additional costs caused by the postponement. Organisers agreed to provide Rs. 5,000 to each team to help cover petrol and other logistical expenses.
The postponed semi-final has been rescheduled for August 3, at 3pm at the GBHSS Playground in Chandmary, Tura.
The winner of that fixture will face DYSCA in the First Division final after having two full days to recover.
Tournament organisers also confirmed that the finals of both the First Division and Second Division will be played on August 6 at Chandmari Playground.
