Nagoya, September 29: India’s women’s 4x400m relay quartet of Kiran Pahal, M.R. Poovamma, Prachi and Vithya Ramraj produced a superb performance to clinch the gold medal at the 2026 Asian Games in Nagoya on Tuesday.
The Indian team held its nerve in a high-pressure final, combining speed, composure and a strong finish to emerge victorious in one of the most eagerly anticipated track events of the Games.
Kiran Pahal set the tone for India before handing over to experienced campaigner M.R. Poovamma. Prachi then kept India firmly in medal contention before Vithya Ramraj delivered a powerful final leg to bring the team home for the gold.
For Vithya, the relay gold adds another medal to an already memorable Asian Games campaign. She had earlier won bronze in the women’s 400m hurdles, setting a new national record in the process.
The gold underlines India’s growing strength in women’s relay athletics and adds another significant medal to the country’s impressive track-and-field haul at the Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games.
The quartet’s victory also provided a memorable moment on the track as India once again stood atop the Asian Games podium in the women’s 4x400m relay.
