Tura, Aug 2: BP Inspire School emerged as the overall Best Club Champion at the 3rd Inter-Club Taekwondo Championship, which concluded on Saturday at the ISBT in Tura after two days of competition.
St. John’s Higher Secondary School finished runners-up following a series of strong performances across multiple weight categories.
Organised by the West Garo Hills Taekwondo Association (WGHTA) in collaboration with the District Sports Office, the championship attracted a record 365 athletes from schools, clubs and training centres across the Garo Hills, underlining the rapid growth of taekwondo in the region.
Among the individual award winners, Doangrik R. Marak of Phoenix Rising Academy was named Best Male Fighter for his outstanding performances throughout the tournament, while Veronia Severa S. Sangma of St. Xavier’s School claimed the Best Female Fighter title after impressing in her respective category.
The championship featured competitions in Kyorugi (sparring) and Poomsae (patterns), with athletes competing across the Sub-Junior, Cadet, Junior and Senior age groups in various boys’ and girls’ weight divisions.
Winners and top finishers in every category received gold, silver and bronze medals, along with merit certificates in recognition of their performances.
Beyond the medals, the championship also served as an important platform for identifying emerging taekwondo talent in the Garo Hills. Organisers praised the high standard of competition and expressed confidence that many of the young athletes would progress to represent Meghalaya at national championships and eventually compete on the international stage.
