Newly appointed India women’s cricket captain Smriti Mandhana has been named a celebrity advocate by UNICEF India to promote equal opportunities, health and well-being for adolescent girls.
The announcement was made on Sunday to mark the International Day of the Girl, which highlights girls’ rights, safety, leadership and potential, while drawing attention to barriers that continue to limit their choices.
Through Mandhana’s influence, UNICEF India aims to raise awareness and encourage action towards empowering adolescent girls and ensuring they have the opportunities and support needed to realise their full potential.
With one of India’s leading women cricketers lending her voice to the cause, the initiative sends a powerful message: every girl deserves the freedom to dream, the opportunity to lead and the support to shape her own future.
