Shillong, Sept 22: The Meghalaya Rugby Association (MRA) has been granted provisional affiliation by Rugby India, the national governing body for rugby in the country, marking a significant step towards the development and promotion of the sport in Meghalaya.
The provisional affiliation, effective from September 21, 2026, was approved by the Board of the Indian Rugby Football Union (IRFU) at its meeting on September 19.
With the affiliation, rugby players from Meghalaya will be eligible to participate in Rugby India competitions and development programmes. The MRA will also receive technical support from Rugby India as it works towards expanding the sport across the state.
The affiliation is expected to provide players and rugby stakeholders in Meghalaya with greater access to national-level competitions, training and development opportunities.
In a statement, the MRA thanked Rugby India for its support and invited players, schools, colleges and clubs interested in taking up rugby to get in touch with the association.
