Shillong, July 23: The league stage of the State-Level Subroto Mukherjee Cup Football Tournament 2026 concluded on Thursday, with the semi-final line-up confirmed across the Under-15 Boys, Under-17 Boys and Under-17 Girls categories.
Organised by the Directorate of Sports & Youth Affairs, the tournament is being held in Shillong at the SSA Stadium, MFA Turf and Mawlai Madan Heh. The competition forms part of the state government’s efforts, under the vision of Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma, to identify and nurture promising young footballers from across Meghalaya.
Thursday’s final league matches produced several entertaining contests and high-scoring encounters, with a number of players delivering standout individual performances as teams secured their places in the last four.
In the Under-17 Boys category, O.M. Roy Memorial Hr. Sec. School of East Khasi Hills edged Myngken Christian Hr. Sec. School of Ri-Bhoi 4-3 in one of the matches of the day. Banaijingshai Kharkongor struck a hat-trick for O.M. Roy, while Chanjib Chetry replied with three goals for Myngken Christian.
Wapung Hr. Sec. School of East Jaintia Hills recorded a convincing 5-1 victory over St. Paul Hr. Sec. School of East Garo Hills, with Mehistar Lyngdoh and Kamwamutmi Dkhar scoring two goals each. Bajengdoba Hr. Sec. School of North Garo Hills also sealed a narrow 1-0 win over Govt. Boys Hr. Sec. School through an early goal by Gipsang M. Marak.
Karukol Hr. Sec. School (South Garo Hills) emerged victorious against Dapboklang Giri Memorial Sec. School (West Khasi Hills) with 3-1 scoreline. The goals for Karukol Hr. Sec. School were scored by Jeniam Ch. Sangma (4th minute), Sandonabath D. Sangma (9th minute) and Jakribath A. Sangma (32nd minute). The lone goal for Dapboklang Giri Memorial Sec. School was struck by Bhaboklang L. Nonglait (17th minute).
The Under-17 Boys semi-finals will see Dapboklang Giri Memorial Sec. School of West Khasi Hills take on Wapung Hr. Sec. School, while O.M. Roy Memorial Hr. Sec. School will face Bajengdoba Hr. Sec. School.
The Under-15 Boys competition also witnessed plenty of goals. Umpohliew Jingtip Hr. Sec. School of East Khasi Hills defeated Dilma Apal Hr. Sec. School of North Garo Hills 5-0, with Borntius Dkhar scoring a hat-trick. Anderson Hr. Sec. School of West Khasi Hills overcame Don Bosco Hr. Sec. School of West Garo Hills 2-1 thanks to a brace from Jerrickson Nonglait, while Myngken Christian Hr. Sec. School of Ri-Bhoi registered a comfortable 4-0 victory over St. Claret Hr. Sec. School. Mangsang Hr. Sec. School and Maharam Govt. Hr. Sec. School played out a 1-1 draw.
The Under-15 Boys semi-finals will feature Little Star Hr. Sec. School of Eastern West Khasi Hills against North Liberty Hr. Sec. School of West Jaintia Hills, while Umpohliew Jingtip Hr. Sec. School will meet Step By Step Sec. School of East Jaintia Hills.
In the Under-17 Girls category, North Liberty Hr. Sec. School of West Jaintia Hills recorded the biggest win of the day, thrashing Upper Kharkutta U.P. School of North Garo Hills 14-0. Baiarbha Nongrum and Saphika Pyrtuh were among the leading scorers in the emphatic victory.
Nongjri Presbyterian Sec. School of Ri-Bhoi defeated Rangthong Christian Hr. Sec. School 3-0, Montfort Sec. School of West Garo Hills overcame Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalaya 2-0, while Little Star Hr. Sec. School secured a 1-0 win over Tyrsad Hr. Sec. School through a goal from Jesica Myrthong.
The Under-17 Girls semi-finals will see North Liberty Hr. Sec. School take on Lurmangkara Sec. School of West Khasi Hills, while Nongjri Presbyterian Sec. School will face Little Star Hr. Sec. School.
With the league stage now complete, attention turns to Friday’s semi-finals, where the remaining teams will battle for places in the finals of one of Meghalaya’s premier school football tournaments.
