Shillong, July 22: Goals flowed freely on the second day of the State-level Subroto Mukherjee Cup Football Tournament 2026, with several one-sided victories and a string of hat-trick performances highlighting the action across the Under-15 Boys, Under-17 Boys and Under-17 Girls categories.
Organised by the Directorate of Sports & Youth Affairs, the tournament is being played at SSA Stadium, Polo, MFA Turf, Polo, and Mawlai Stadium (Madan Heh), featuring school teams from all 11 districts of Meghalaya.
Under-15 Boys
At SSA Stadium, Step by Step Secondary School (East Jaintia Hills) opened the day’s fixtures with a convincing 5-1 victory over St. Claret School (West Garo Hills). Mewasolaki Rymbai scored twice in quick succession to lead the winning side.
North Liberty Higher Secondary School (West Jaintia Hills) followed with a 4-0 win over Anderson Higher Secondary School (West Khasi Hills).
Umpohliew Jingtip Secondary School (East Khasi Hills) registered the biggest victory in the category, defeating Baghmara Government Higher Secondary School (South Garo Hills) 6-0. Bomtius Dkhar scored twice in the emphatic win.
Little Star English Medium Secondary School (Eastern West Khasi Hills) and St. Paul Higher Secondary School, Mangsang (East Garo Hills) shared the points after playing out an entertaining 2-2 draw.
Under-17 Boys
At MFA Turf, Bajengdoba Higher Secondary School (North Garo Hills) edged Amwi Higher Secondary School (West Jaintia Hills) 4-3 in one of the most exciting matches of the day, with Chukam R. Marak scoring a brace for the winners.
Step by Step Secondary School, Wapung (East Jaintia Hills) secured a comfortable 4-0 victory over Okkapara Secondary School (South West Garo Hills), inspired by a hat-trick from Jeffarson Phawa.
Myngken Christian Higher Secondary School (Ri-Bhoi) produced another dominant display, defeating Little Star Higher Secondary School (Eastern West Khasi Hills) 5-1. Chanjib Chetry was the star of the match with four goals.
Dapboklang Giri Memorial Higher Secondary School (West Khasi Hills) completed the day’s fixtures with a commanding 6-0 win over Balang Mawlangwir Higher Secondary School (South West Khasi Hills), courtesy of a four-goal performance from Iohborlang Lyngkhoi.
Under-17 Girls
North Liberty Higher Secondary School (West Jaintia Hills) recorded the biggest win of the day, thrashing St. Claret Secondary School (South West Garo Hills) 12-0. Elizabeth Thianglai and Baiarbha Nongrum both scored hat-tricks in the comprehensive victory.
Lurmangkara Secondary School (West Khasi Hills) defeated Montfort School (West Garo Hills) 4-0, with Natasha Kharjahrin netting three goals.
Tyrsad Higher Secondary School (East Khasi Hills) overwhelmed Rangku Memorial Girls Higher Secondary School (South Garo Hills) 9-0, as Ha-I-sha Myrthong also completed a hat-trick.
The only drawn match in the girls’ competition saw Lotus Secondary School (East Jaintia Hills) and Rangthong Christian Higher Secondary School (South West Khasi Hills) settle for a goalless stalemate.
The group-stage matches conclude on Thursday, after which the semi-finalists in all three categories will be decided. The semi-finals are scheduled for July 24, with the tournament set to conclude on July 25.
