Shillong, July 21: The State-level Subroto Mukherjee Cup Football Tournament 2026 got off to a high-scoring start in Shillong on Tuesday, with 56 goals scored across the opening day’s matches in the Under-15 Boys, Under-17 Boys and Under-17 Girls categories.
The tournament has brought together promising young footballers from across Meghalaya. Matches are being played at three venues in Shillong: SSA Stadium, Polo; Mawlai Stadium, Madan Heh; and MFA Turf, Polo.
Under-17 Boys Highlights
Balang Mawlangwir Hr. Sec. School (South West Khasi Hills) narrowly defeated Karukol Hr. Sec. School (South Garo Hills) 3-2 in a tightly contested opening match. Kheinkorlang Thongni (9′), Luckyson Kharlyngdoh (17′), and Kenneth Rudolf Wanniang (70′) scored for the winners, while Sengning R. Marak netted a brace (42′, 63′) for Karukol.
O.M. Roy Memorial Hr. Sec. School (East Khasi Hills) secured a confident 3-0 victory over Little Star Eng. Med. Sec. School (Eastern West Khasi Hills) with goals from Banaijingshai Kharkongor (13′), Jonathan Kharbani (30′), and Batista Mujai (70+1′).
In a high-scoring thriller, St. Paul Hr. Sec. School, Mangsang (East Garo Hills) overcame Okkapara Sec. School (South West Garo Hills) 7-4. Tengba D. Sangma led the charge with four goals (14′, 39′, 41′, 54′), supported by Sengbuish J. Sangma (9′), Jakwil N. Arengh (33′), and Priangbirth G. Momin (67′). Okkapara’s Esbirth B. Marak delivered a spectacular individual performance, scoring all four goals for his team (18′, 34′, 38′, 66′).

Under-17 Girls Highlights
St. Claret Sec. School (South West Garo Hills) dominated Upper Kharkutta U.P. School (North Garo Hills) with a 6-0 victory. Dondimechea A. Marak spearheaded the win with four goals (19′, 35′, 40′, 58′), alongside strikes from Jenisha Ch. Marak (28′) and Kimkimcheesa D. Sangma (54′).
Nongjri Pres. Sec. School (Ri-Bhoi) earned a hard-fought 1-0 win against Lotus Sec. School (East Jaintia Hills), thanks to a decisive goal by Daphi Syngkli (60′).
Lurmangkara Sec. School (West Khasi Hills) defeated Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalaya (East Garo Hills) 2-0, with a first-half brace from Natasha Kharbani (9′, 14′).
Little Star Hr. Sec. School (Eastern West Khasi Hills) recorded an emphatic 8-0 victory over Rangku Memorial Girls Hr. Sec. School (South Garo Hills). Wandari Rani scored a hat-trick (2′, 17′, 37′), while Jesica Myrthong (49′, 58′) and Nangseibun Ryntathiang (51′, 53′) added braces. Genefa Myrthong (30′) also found the back of the net.
Under-15 Boys Highlights
Maharam Govt. Hr. Sec. School (South West Khasi Hills) and Little Star English Medium Sec. School (Eastern West Khasi Hills) played out a competitive 2-2 draw. Little Star’s Mebanroy Kharkylliang (23′) and Habankhlur Lyngdoh Mawnai (40′) got on the scoresheet, while an own goal from Ailadlang Mylliem Umlong (42′) and a late strike by Wanpyndapbor Nongsiej (50+1′) secured the draw for Maharam.
Dilma Apal Hr. Sec. School (North Garo Hills) secured a 3-0 win over Baghmara Govt. Hr. Sec. School (South Garo Hills) with goals from Susong Wegate G. Momin (1′), Mugariki K. Sangma (7′), and Chisamio K. Sangma (36′).
North Liberty Hr. Sec. School (West Jaintia Hills) delivered a massive 12-0 victory against Don Bosco Hr. Sec. School (West Garo Hills). Meshan-I Syntem scored four goals (14′, 39′, 44′, 46′), while Malcolm Nongbsap secured a hat-trick (34′, 43′, 45′). Other contributors included Kyrshanlang Chyrmang (15′), Kyntang Suna (20′), Inibait Lamare (25′), Precious Lyngdoh (48′), and Polski Khongmali (50′).
Myngken Christian Hr. Sec. School (Ri-Bhoi) and Step by Step L.P. School, Wapung (East Jaintia Hills) played out a resilient 0-0 draw.
The tournament, running until July 25, 2026, will continue tomorrow with the final round of group matches to decide the semi-finalists.
The tournament comes in the heels of the government actively investing in sports infrastructure, grassroots football development, and youth engagement across the State. Through sustained initiatives, the Government continues to create opportunities for young athletes to hone their skills, compete at higher levels and pursue excellence in sports.
