Shillong, Oct 19: Nongkseh and Meghalaya Police will renew their rivalry when they face each other in the final of the SSA Super Cup 2026 at the SSA Stadium on Monday. The match is scheduled to kick off at 5:30 pm, with both sides aiming to cap their impressive campaigns by lifting the trophy.
Both teams secured their places in the tournament by finishing among the top six in the Shillong Premier League (SPL) 2026, with Nongkseh finishing third and Meghalaya Police (MLP) fifth. They subsequently negotiated the playoffs and semifinals to set up an intriguing final.
Nongkseh began their knockout campaign against Sawmer, recovering from twice falling behind to secure a convincing 4-2 victory. They then faced SPL 2026 champions Mawlai in the semifinals and registered a narrow 1-0 win to book their place in the title clash.
Meghalaya Police, meanwhile, have produced an equally impressive, if more demanding, run to the final. They faced Langsning in the playoffs, coming from behind in the second half to take the match to a penalty shootout, where they prevailed 5-4. MLP followed that performance with another determined display, defeating Shillong Lajong 1-0 in the semifinals. Lajong finished runners-up in the SPL 2026 and were the defending SSA Super Cup champions.
Despite MLP’s strong performances in the knockout stages, Nongkseh will draw confidence from their recent record against the police side. The two teams last contested a major title-deciding encounter in the Shillong Sports Association’s First Division 2025, when Nongkseh secured a 1-0 victory in the final match of the season to claim the championship.
Their meeting in the SPL 2026 also went Nongkseh’s way. Having endured a three-match winless run, Nongkseh responded emphatically when they faced MLP, recording a commanding 7-1 victory to revive their league campaign.
However, Meghalaya Police will enter Monday’s final with considerable momentum after eliminating two formidable opponents, Langsning and Shillong Lajong, in the knockout rounds. Their ability to recover from difficult situations and deliver under pressure could prove crucial in the title decider.
Nongkseh, on the other hand, will look to build on their strong finish and add another trophy to their collection. With both teams having demonstrated their ability to handle high-pressure encounters, the final promises a competitive contest as they vie to be crowned SSA Super Cup 2026 champions.
