Delhi Capitals have appointed former Sri Lanka fast bowler Chaminda Vaas as their bowling coach ahead of IPL 2027, adding another experienced name to their revamped coaching setup.
The franchise announced the appointment through a social media video featuring Vaas himself. His arrival follows the additions of former India captain Sourav Ganguly and former India all-rounder Yuvraj Singh as Delhi Capitals continue to strengthen their coaching staff ahead of the next IPL season.
Vaas is regarded as one of Sri Lanka’s finest fast bowlers, having built an illustrious international career through his accuracy, ability to swing the new ball and effectiveness across different playing conditions.
The left-arm pacer claimed 355 wickets in 111 Test matches and 400 wickets in 322 One-Day Internationals during his international career. He was also a key member of Sri Lanka’s squad that won the 1996 ICC Cricket World Cup, a landmark achievement in the country’s cricketing history.
Known for his ability to trouble batters with movement and precision rather than relying solely on pace, Vaas brings extensive international experience to the Delhi Capitals setup. His expertise could prove valuable in developing the franchise’s bowling attack and helping its players adapt to different match situations.
With Ganguly, Yuvraj and Vaas now part of the revamped coaching structure, Delhi Capitals will look to combine strategic experience and specialist expertise as they prepare for IPL 2027. The franchise will hope the strengthened support staff can help the team deliver a stronger campaign in the upcoming season.
