Tura, Aug 8: Kalkame Football Association (FA) were crowned champions of the Tura Football League 2026-27 First Division after defeating Danakgre Youth Sports and Cultural Association (DYSCA) 8-3 in a high-scoring final at the Government Boys’ Higher Secondary School (GBHSS) Playground in Chandmary on Friday.
The final was attended by retired Director of the Directorate of Sports and Youth Affairs Dikki D. Shira, retired Assistant Director Jasper P. Marak and officials of the West Garo Hills District Football Association (DFA), who later presented the trophies and individual awards.
Kalkame recovered from an early setback to dominate the contest, especially in the second half, as they secured promotion to the Super Division in style.
Danakgre made the perfect start when Jessfield Sangma found the net in the opening minute to give his side an early lead. However, Kalkame gradually took control of the match and equalised through Matsrang Sangma in the 20th minute before he added his second four minutes later.
Messfield Sangma extended Kalkame’s advantage in the 29th minute, while Larsing Marak made it 4-1 before half-time with a goal in the 39th minute.
DYSCA attempted to fight their way back after the restart. Bentom Marak reduced the deficit in the 55th minute before Tokan Marak scored two minutes later to make it 4-3 and briefly revive hopes of a comeback.
However, Kalkame responded in emphatic fashion.
Maswel Sangma struck twice in the 61st and 70th minutes before Matsrang Sangma completed a superb four-goal performance with strikes in the 75th and 79th minutes to seal an emphatic 8-3 victory.
Matsrang Sangma’s outstanding display also earned him the Player of the Final award.
Kalkame players dominated the individual honours, with Riktho Marak named Best Goalkeeper, Crusbirth Marak Best Defender and Maswel Sangma Best Forward.
DYSCA captain Bentom Marak was adjudged Best Midfielder, while teammate Jessfield Sangma received the Player of the League award. Chandmary FC’s Tengrik R. Marak finished as the First Division’s top scorer with eight goals.
As champions, Kalkame FA received the trophy and Rs. 1 lakh in prize money, while runners-up DYSCA were awarded Rs. 70,000 along with the runners-up trophy. Both teams have earned promotion to the Super Division for the next season.
