Shillong, Aug 5: The Meghalaya Triathlon Association (MTA) will send a 12-member team to compete at the National Triathlon Championship in Pune, Maharashtra, marking the state’s first-ever participation in the event.
The championship will be held from August 14 to 16 and is being organised by the Indian Triathlon Federation in collaboration with the Maharashtra Triathlon Association.
The squad comprises both men and women athletes who will represent Meghalaya in the multi-discipline sport, which combines swimming, cycling and running.
The participation marks a major milestone for the newly-formed Meghalaya Triathlon Association, which was established only in June this year. Since its formation, the association has brought together triathlon athletes from across the state and prepared a team for its maiden appearance at the national championship.
The association hopes the debut at the national level will provide valuable exposure to the athletes while helping promote triathlon as a growing sport in Meghalaya.
