Tura, June 28: The First Division of the Tura Football League 2026-27 season kicked off in spectacular fashion on Saturday at the GBHSS playground in Chandmary, delivering an absolute nail-biting gameplay. In a match defined by a staggering ten goals, blistering early offense, and a miraculous second-half resurgence, Do•reng Sporting Club and Northern United ultimately shared the points in a dramatic 5-5 draw.
Right from the kick off, Northern United went on a relentless offensive assault. Capitalizing on early defensive lapses from Do•reng Sporting, Northern United found the back of the net four times within the first 20 minutes, building pressure on their opponent.
Robat N. Sangma opened the scoring for Northern United in the 2nd minute. This was quickly followed by a brilliant quick-fire brace from Breantengsrang Ch. Marak, who found the net at the 5th and 7th minutes. Ten minutes later, Sengsram K. Sangma added a fourth goal at the 17-minute mark.
It looked to be a runaway victory for Northern United, but Do•reng Sporting Club refused to back down. After making a crucial tactical substitution at the 35th minute, bringing on Adoniza Marak, the momentum began to shift. Adoniza made an instant impact on the pitch, scoring at the 39th minute. Just before the halftime whistle, Bothsing Ch. Marak added another at the 41st minute, cutting the deficit to 4-2 as the teams went into the break.
Coming from break, Do•reng Sporting entered the field with their newfound momentum and just three minutes after the restart Adoniza Marak struck again in the 43rd minute, cutting the goal deficit to just one and putting the pressure back on the Northern United ranks.
Northern United managed to temporarily halt the comeback when Kadil found the back of the net in the 50th minute, extending their lead back to two goals at 5-3.
However, Do•reng Sporting’s relentless barrage of attacks finally broke the Northern United defense. Do•reng Sporting’s Nikku Ch. Marak stepped up to score two crucial goals at the 68th and 73rd minutes to secure his brace and level the thrilling match at 5-5.
The intense, physical nature of the game unfortunately led to a concerning moment on the pitch. During a defensive scramble, Do•reng Sporting’s goalkeeper, Nikrak Ch. Sangma, collided heavily with a teammate resulting in a cut on his forehead. The medical team was quick to respond and administered necessary aid. Nikrak was referred to Tura Civil Hospital for further medical evaluation and stitches.
Also played for 40-minute halves, the match ended at 80+4 minutes. With no further goals, both teams walked away with one point each.
