Shillong, July 14: Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma on Tuesday reviewed the progress of the under-construction Sports Complex at Umsawli in New Shillong, reaffirming the Meghalaya government’s commitment to developing world-class sporting infrastructure for the state’s youth.
During the inspection, the Chief Minister assessed the pace of work at the sports complex, which is being developed as part of the government’s broader vision to strengthen sports infrastructure and position Meghalaya as a leading sporting destination in the Northeast.
According to a press statement from the Chief Minister’s Office (CMO), the complex will provide modern training and competition facilities, helping nurture sporting talent while further establishing Meghalaya as a regional hub for sports.
During the review, Sangma directed the executing agencies to maintain close coordination, uphold strict quality standards and expedite construction while adhering to prescribed timelines and safety norms.
Speaking during the visit, the Chief Minister said investments in modern sports infrastructure are aimed at creating greater opportunities for young athletes and supporting the long-term development of sports in the state.
The CMO press note stressed that the Meghalaya government is committed to ensuring the timely completion of the Sports Complex so that athletes and the sporting community can benefit from world-class facilities at the earliest.
