Aichi-Nagoya, October 2: Indian boxing celebrated a historic double at the 20th Asian Games Aichi-Nagoya 2026 as Parveen Hooda and Ankush clinched gold medals in their respective finals, underlining India’s impressive campaign in the boxing ring.
Parveen delivered a golden performance in the women’s 65kg final at the Nishio Gymnasium, defeating former World Champion Chen Nien-chin of Chinese Taipei by a narrow 3-2 split decision to claim her maiden Asian Games title.
The victory marked a significant moment in Parveen’s career, bringing redemption after the highs and setbacks of her Asian Games journey. The 2022 World Championships bronze medallist had been in commanding form throughout the competition, defeating Uzbekistan’s Navbakhor Khamidova 5-0 in the quarterfinals before registering another comprehensive 5-0 victory over China’s Li Shu in the semifinals.
With the gold, Parveen became only the third Indian woman to win an Asian Games boxing title, following Mary Kom’s triumph in 2014 and Lovlina Borgohain’s gold in 2026.
Her victory also confirmed India’s best-ever women’s boxing performance at the Asian Games, with the country winning two gold medals in the women’s competition in a single edition for the first time.
Ankush added to India’s celebrations by clinching gold in the men’s 80kg category. He defeated South Korea’s Minseong Kim 4-0 in the final, producing a decisive performance to secure the top spot on the podium.
The two victories further strengthened India’s medal haul in boxing at Aichi-Nagoya, with the Indian contingent making its mark through strong performances across both the men’s and women’s competitions.
For Parveen, the triumph represents the culmination of a journey marked by perseverance and determination. For Ankush, the gold adds another significant achievement to India’s campaign.
Together, their victories made October 2 a memorable day for Indian boxing at the continental showpiece.
