Shillong, July 19: Mawpdang SC were crowned champions of the SSA U-20 4th Division Football League 2026 after defeating Seila Sap FCC 2-0 in the final played at the SSA Ground on Saturday.
Mawpdang dominated proceedings from the outset and were rewarded with an early breakthrough in the 10th minute when Banaijingshai Kharkongor found the back of the net. They could have extended their lead before halftime but were repeatedly denied by a determined Seila Sap defence, who managed to keep the deficit to a single goal going into the break.
The second half saw a spirited response from Seila Sap FCC, who pushed forward in search of an equaliser and put pressure on the Mawpdang defence. But standing between them and an equaliser was goalkeeper Embhalang Khongnoh, who was nothing short of a wall. He pulled off a string of incredible saves to deny Seila Sap any hope of getting back into the game.
In the closing minutes of the match, Marbiang Kharbhih (80’) headed home the decisive second goal to secure the title for Mawpdang SC.
The final was played before a packed SSA Ground, with Mawpdang supporters turning the stands behind the goal into a wall of noise. Their chants and cheers echoed around the ground as they roared their team on from start to finish.
As champions, Mawpdang SC received a cash prize of Rs. 60,000 along with the championship trophy, presented by Shillong Sports Association (SSA) President and MLA Banteidor Lyngdoh. Runners-up Seila Sap FCC, competing in their maiden SSA football season, were awarded Rs. 30,000.
Goalkeeper Embhalang Khongnoh of Mawpdang SC was named the Man of the Match for his outstanding performance in the final.
Marbiang Kharbhih of Mawpdang SC finished as the league’s joint top scorer with 10 goals. He shared the Golden Boot honours with Samphrangshai Rani of Nongkseh United FC, who also scored 10 goals during the tournament.
