Shillong, June 10: Meghalaya’s young karate athletes have returned to the State after an impressive show at the 5th KIO Sub-Junior, Cadet and Junior National Karate Championship 2026, held in Dehradun, Uttarakhand, from June 4 to 7. They brought back one silver and three bronze medals.
A contingent of 41 karatekas from the All Meghalaya Karate-Do Association (AMKA) represented the state at the national championship. Besides the medal winners, several other Meghalaya athletes also put up impressive performances and reached the quarter-finals.

Leading the state’s medal tally was Daniel Dabiangbha Warjri, who clinched the silver medal in the Individual Kumite Junior – 68 kg category.
The three bronze medals came through Jason McRyan Malngiang, who finished third in the Individual 13 Years Kata event, Precious Stone Mukhim, who secured bronze in the Individual Kumite 13 Years – 55 kg category, and Sa I Banmanbha S. Blah, who claimed bronze in the Individual Kumite Junior – 53 kg category.
The All Meghalaya Karate-Do Association described the team’s performance as a proud achievement, noting that several other members of the contingent narrowly missed out on medals after advancing to the quarter-final stages.

AMKA General Secretary, Ksan Kupar Warjri, also expressed gratitude to the Government of Meghalaya for providing financial assistance that enabled the team to participate in the championship. The association further acknowledged and appreciated the guidance of the technical officials who guided the athletes throughout the event as well as the technical officials who officiated in the championship.
The Meghalaya contingent was supported by coaches Donboklang Lyngdoh, Ester Mary Lyngdoh, and Pynhunlang Kharbuli, who also served as manager. The state’s technical officials at the championship included referees Na Oo Man Kiwi War Passah, Banrilang Lyngdoh Nonglait, Banteilang Pdahsiej and Albert Pyngrope.

Congratulating the medal winners and all the participating karatekas, the association said the athletes had represented Meghalaya with dedication and commitment.
