Shillong, Aug 29: Meghalaya karateka Gideon Tympuin has been selected to represent India in the U-21 men’s Kata category at the AKF24 Cadet, Junior & U-21 Karate Championships 2026, scheduled to be held in Amman, Jordan, from September 6 to 11, 2026.
Tympuin earned his place in the Indian team following his gold-medal winning performance at the 5th KIO Senior & U-21 National Karate Championship 2026, held at the Talkatora Indoor Stadium in New Delhi from February 26 to March 1, 2026.
The young karateka has also been in good form internationally. In July, he won a bronze medal at the 10th Cadet, Junior, U-21 and Senior Karate Championship 2026 in Dhaka, Bangladesh, held from July 15 to 19, 2026.
His selection marks a significant achievement for Meghalaya and the state’s karate fraternity, with the All Meghalaya Karate-Do Association (AMKA) congratulating Tympuin on earning the opportunity to represent India at the international championship.
AMKA general secretary Ksan Kupar Warjri said the association was proud of Tympuin’s achievement and expressed hope that he would continue to bring recognition to Meghalaya and India through his performances on the international stage.
Tympuin is scheduled to leave for Jordan on September 4 ahead of the championships.
