Tura , Aug 12: Nengminja Mahari advanced to the semi-finals of the 4th Women’s Inter-Mahari Football Tournament after edging past Mri Mahari 1-0 in the quarter-final at the Government Boys Higher Secondary School Artificial Turf playground in Chandmary, Tura, on Tuesday.
With the women’s tournament beginning directly from the quarter-final stage due to the smaller number of participating teams, the match was played over two 25-minute halves.
Both sides struggled to create clear chances in the opening stages, with the game featuring several offside calls as the teams looked to find their rhythm.
Nengminja, however, made the early breakthrough in the third minute when Guinevere N. Sangma found the back of the net to give her side a 1-0 lead.

Mri Mahari responded with several attempts to find an equaliser after the break, but Nengminja’s defence held firm to protect their narrow advantage until the final whistle.
Guinevere N. Sangma was named Player of the Match for her match-winning performance and was presented with a commemorative trophy.
The victory sends Nengminja Mahari into the next round, while Mri Mahari’s campaign comes to an end.
