Tura, July 28: Young players from the Tura Badminton Coaching Centre achieved significant success at the 1st Prize Money Badminton Tournament, held from July 24-26, at the Polo Indoor Stadium in Shillong.
The tournament, organized by the Badminton Promotional Group, saw Tura athletes secure multiple medals, showing the region’s emerging talent. The tournament featured categories for Under 11, 13, 15, 17, and 19, as well as a senior category, with events for singles and doubles. The total prize money for the tournament was Rs. 3 Lakhs.
Elmo Kaizo D Marak clinched the gold medal in the Under-13 Boys’ Singles category, demonstrating exceptional skill. In the Under-13 Girls’ Singles, Amelia D Marak secured a silver medal. Amelia D Marak further teamed up with Athena D Marak to earn a silver in the Under-13 Girls’ Doubles.
Sixbirth M Marak won a silver medal in the Under-15 Boys’ Singles. The Under-15 Boys’ Doubles saw Dezio P Marak and Sixbirth M Marak claim gold with their coordinated play.
Salrak Marak, coach at the Tura Badminton Coaching Centre, expressed his pride, stating, “As a coach, I feel incredibly proud and grateful to see my students earning these medals fills me with pride—not just for their victories, but for the journey they embraced to get there. It’s not just about the medals themselves, but about the hard work, discipline, and determination they’ve shown throughout the journey. At the same time, it reminds me that our job isn’t finished: we must keep guiding them to stay humble, keep learning, and prepare even better for future challenges.”
