Tura, Aug 19: Parents and well-wishers in Tura came together to support a young badminton player from a humble background.
A crowdfunding initiative led by Donme Marak raised approximately ₹45,000, which was handed over to Sixbirth M. Marak and his father by the West Garo Hills District Badminton Association (WGHDBA), along with a citation honouring the young athlete’s hard work and promise.
To mark the team’s participation in the 48th State Badminton Championship in Nongpoh, a special sending-off ceremony was held on Monday evening at the Indoor Stadium in Hawakhana, Tura.
Organised by the parents of WGHDBA players, the event was filled with encouragement and motivation.
This year’s contingent includes 29 players who will compete across various age groups and categories, ranging from Under-13 to senior level, in singles, doubles, and mixed doubles. The team will be accompanied by a coach, a team manager, and an assistant manager, and will travel to Nongpoh on August 19.
