India’s Gulveer Singh completed a memorable medal hat-trick at the Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games on Tuesday, winning bronze in the men’s 5000m final.
The Indian distance runner clocked 13:32.75 to finish third, adding another medal to the two silvers he had already won in Nagoya — in the 1500m and 10,000m events.
Gulveer’s achievement is particularly significant as he became the first Indian man to win three individual medals at a single edition of the Asian Games. His three-medal haul also puts him alongside an elite group of Indian athletes who have achieved the feat in athletics.
His campaign in Nagoya began with a silver in the 1500m before he followed it up with another silver in the 10,000m, clocking 28:29.38. The 5000m bronze completed an outstanding triple-medal campaign.
For Gulveer, the bronze also adds another chapter to his Asian Games journey after he won bronze in the 10,000m at the 2022 Hangzhou edition, making it his fourth Asian Games medal overall. Three races. Three medals. One historic Asian Games campaign.
Gulveer Singh has established himself as one of the standout performers of India’s athletics campaign in Nagoya.
