NAGOYA, September 28, 2026: India secured a double podium finish in the men’s javelin throw at the 2026 Asian Games in Aichi-Nagoya, with Yash Vir Singh winning silver and Rohit Yadav claiming bronze on Monday.
Yash Vir produced a personal-best throw of 85.72 metres to finish second, while Rohit Yadav sent the javelin 84.35m to take the bronze medal.
Sri Lanka’s Rumesh Tharanga Pathirage won the gold medal with a massive 88.55m effort.
The Indian duo delivered their medals in a final that was held without defending Asian Games champion Neeraj Chopra, who was ruled out of the Games because of an ankle ligament injury. Chopra had won gold at the 2018 and 2023 Asian Games.
Yash Vir’s silver marks another significant milestone in a breakthrough 2026 season. He had earlier won bronze at the Commonwealth Games, where his 85.41m effort placed him behind Pathirage and Neeraj Chopra.
Rohit, meanwhile, entered the Asian Games final as one of India’s leading javelin throwers. His season-best and personal-best entering the competition stood at 87.68m.
For Pathirage, the Asian Games gold adds another major title to an outstanding 2026 campaign. The Sri Lankan had already won Commonwealth Games gold earlier this year with an 89.75m throw.
The Indian pair’s double podium finish ensures that the country continues its strong presence in men’s javelin on the Asian stage, even in Chopra’s absence.
