Guwahati, Apr 27: Assam U-15 Girls were crowned champions of the 2nd North East Rising Cup after defeating Tripura U-15 Girls by 11 runs via the VJD method in the final at Judges’ Field on Sunday.
Batting first, Assam were bowled out for 177 in 34.5 overs, putting up a competitive total in a high-pressure final. Ankita Chetri led the effort with a brisk 40 off 39 balls, while Aradhya Dutta contributed 37 and Murshana Baruah added 22. For Tripura, Diya Sarkar (2/39) and Purba Chowdhury (1/23) were among the wickets.
In reply, Tripura were 51/2 in 15 overs when rain interrupted play, with the revised target leaving them short by 11 runs under the VJD calculation. Sayantika Sutradhar top-scored with 24 off 48 balls, while Christina Rema made 14. Assam’s bowlers kept things tight, with Nousin Afra Anjum picking up a wicket.
Ankita Chetri was named Player of the Match for her crucial innings in the final. Despite the loss, Tripura dominated the individual honours, with Sayantika Sutradhar finishing as the tournament’s leading run-scorer with 211 runs in five innings. Purba Chowdhury was named both Best Bowler and Player of the Tournament after claiming 11 wickets in four matches.
The closing ceremony was attended by BCCI Honorary Secretary, Devajit Saikia, as Chief Guest and Apex council member BCCI, MKJ Majumdar, as Guest of Honour. Officials from various state cricket associations, including Sanatan Das, Romen Dutta and Rajendra Singh, were also present on the occasion.
