Former India spinner Pragyan Ojha has been named chairman of the Board of Control for Cricket in India’s (BCCI) senior men’s selection committee, succeeding Ajit Agarkar. Former India spinner Ramesh Powar has also been appointed as a new member of the selection panel.
The BCCI confirmed the appointments on Monday following a selection process conducted by the Cricket Advisory Committee (CAC), comprising Ashok Malhotra and Jatin Paranjape. The committee unanimously recommended Powar for the vacant position.
Ojha, who had been serving as the interim chairman, will continue in the role based on seniority, determined by the number of Test matches played by the members of the selection committee.
The former left-arm spinner represented India in 24 Tests, 18 One-Day Internationals (ODIs) and six T20 Internationals during his international career.
Agarkar’s tenure as chairman ended on October 4. He had assumed charge in July 2023 and reportedly did not seek an extension.
With Ojha now continuing as chairman and Powar joining the panel, the BCCI has reshaped its senior men’s selection committee as it looks ahead to upcoming international assignments.
