India had a mixed day at the Denmark Open Super 750 badminton tournament on Thursday, with young Tanvi Sharma and women’s doubles pair Treesa Jolly and Gayatri Gopichand advancing to the quarterfinals, while Kidambi Srikanth and Ashmita Chaliha bowed out in the round of 16.
Treesa and Gayatri produced an impressive performance to defeat Indonesia’s fifth-seeded pair of Rachel Allessya Rose and Febi Setianingrum 21-16, 21-17 in straight games.
The Indian duo had a slow start and trailed 9-11 in the opening game before mounting a strong comeback to take the lead. They carried that momentum into the second game, maintaining their composure to seal the contest in 45 minutes.
Treesa and Gayatri will next face Malaysia’s Pearly Tan and Thinaah Muralitharan for a place in the semifinals. The Indian pair will look to continue their impressive run against the Malaysian duo in what promises to be a challenging quarterfinal encounter.
Meanwhile, rising Indian shuttler Tanvi Sharma continued her promising campaign with a straight-game victory over Germany’s Yvonne Li in the women’s singles.
Tanvi secured a 21-17, 21-19 win, showing composure in both games to book her place in the quarterfinals. The young Indian will now look to build on her momentum as she takes on the next challenge at the prestigious BWF World Tour Super 750 event.
However, the day ended in disappointment for Srikanth and Ashmita, who suffered round-of-16 exits, leaving India with two representatives progressing to the last eight.
With Tanvi in the women’s singles and Treesa-Gayatri in the women’s doubles quarterfinals, India will hope for another strong showing as the tournament enters its decisive stages.
