The Boxing Federation of India (BFI) is facing fresh administrative turmoil, with secretary-general Pramod Kumar proposing a no-confidence motion against president Ajay Singh and calling a Special General Meeting (SGM) for October 24.
In a letter to affiliated state associations, Kumar cited alleged irregularities and a breakdown of trust under Singh’s leadership, asking members to deliberate and vote on the proposed motion in accordance with the federation’s Constitution and Bye-Laws. The Meghalayan Express has a copy of the letter.
“Response to your numerous requests received, pin pointing the irregularities as well as the wrong doings of Mr Ajay Singh and expressing a total breakdown of trust and serious governance collapse under the current leadership of Mr Ajay Singh, I hereby issue this formal notice convening a Special General Meeting of the General Body to place, deliberate, and vote upon a Motion of No Confidence against the President, Mr Ajay Singh in accordance with the provisions of the Constitution and Bye-Laws of the Boxing Federation of India,” Pramod wrote.
The proposed motion comes at a time when Indian boxing is celebrating a record medal haul at the Commonwealth and Asian Games, where India topped the medals tally. The administrative developments, however, have brought the federation’s internal functioning into focus.
The October 24 meeting is expected to be a key moment for the BFI, with affiliated state units set to consider the no-confidence motion against Singh. The allegations cited in the letter are those made by Pramod and have not been independently established.
