New Delhi, October 6: India women’s cricket captain Harmanpreet Kaur has stepped down from captaincy across all formats, bringing an end to her leadership stint with the national team.
Harmanpreet announced her decision on Tuesday through an emotional Instagram post, saying she believes the team is in a good place and that the decision was made with the side’s future in mind.
The 37-year-old will continue playing for India, but without the responsibility of leading the team.
Her decision comes soon after she led India to gold at the 2026 Asian Games, where India defeated Sri Lanka in the women’s cricket final to retain the continental title.
Harmanpreet’s captaincy also included India’s historic 2025 Women’s ODI World Cup triumph, making her the only Indian woman captain to win the 50-over World Cup.
Her resignation marks the end of a significant chapter in Indian women’s cricket, but Harmanpreet has made it clear that her journey with the national team is not over.
She steps away from the captaincy — not from India.
