AICHI-NAGOYA: Mizoram’s hockey stars were at the heart of a historic night as Lalremsiami and Lalthantluangi helped India win the women’s hockey gold medal at the 2026 Asian Games, ending a 44-year wait for the continental title.
India defeated China 1–0 in the final, with Lalremsiami providing the decisive moment on a landmark night for both Indian hockey and Mizoram.
The Mizo forward struck in the 10th minute to give India the lead, and the goal came in her 200th senior international appearance, adding another milestone to an already memorable occasion.
Lalremsiami’s goal proved enough as India held their nerve through the remainder of the final, producing a determined defensive display to keep China at bay and secure the gold medal.
Alongside Lalremsiami, fellow Mizo player Lalthantluangi was also part of the Indian squad that created history in Aichi-Nagoya.
For Mizoram, the achievement adds another significant chapter to the state’s growing contribution to Indian hockey. Two players from the northeastern state were part of the squad that climbed to the top of the Asian Games podium after four decades.
