Shillong, Oct 4: Meghalaya athlete Rimchi Sangma has earned an opportunity to represent India at the 6th Junior & 21st Senior World Pencak Silat Championship 2026 (Boys & Girls) (Men & Women), scheduled to be held in Tashkent, Uzbekistan, from December 5 to 12, 2026.
Rimchi, who comes from a financially challenged family, secured her place at the world championship after winning a gold medal at the 14th Senior Pencak Silat Championship held in Shillong earlier this year. Her performance earned her selection to the Indian team for the prestigious international competition.
Her selection has brought pride to the Garo community and the wider sporting fraternity in Meghalaya and the Northeast. For the young athlete, the opportunity represents an important step in her sporting career and places her on an international platform.
However, financial constraints are now posing a major challenge to her participation in Uzbekistan. According to her family, the expenses associated with travel, accommodation, training and other requirements are difficult to meet, prompting them to seek financial assistance from the government, sports authorities, organisations and well-wishers.

The family hopes that timely support will enable Rimchi to travel to Uzbekistan and compete at the world championship after earning her place through her performances on the national stage.
Despite the challenges, Rimchi is continuing her training with a focus on being physically and technically prepared for the international competition.
Her selection marks a significant opportunity for the young athlete, who now hopes to translate her national-level success into a strong performance on the world stage.
With the championship approaching, support from the government, sporting bodies and well-wishers could play an important role in helping Rimchi realise her opportunity to represent India in Tashkent.
