Shillong, Sept 11: Swimmers across age groups and experience levels took to the pool as True North Leisure Centre hosted its 1st Open Swimming Competition and Masters Meet at its facility in Lapalang here on Friday.
The two-day competition, which concludes on Saturday, has attracted dozens of swimmers aged seven and above competing across various individual and relay events and swimming styles. The meet forms part of True North’s growing competitive swimming calendar following the facility’s opening last year and its hosting of a school-level championship in 2025.
The opening day featured closely contested races, with swimmers displaying strong competitiveness across the different categories. Schoolmates, parents, teachers and supporters gathered at the venue, adding to the lively atmosphere throughout the day’s events.

True North has also been associated with promoting year-round swimming in Shillong through its Mission Compound complex. The latest competition expands its organised swimming activities to include participants from a wider range of age groups.
The chief guest for the opening ceremony was Dangsan Khyriem, Superintendent of Police (City), while young Meghalaya footballer Phrangki Buam attended as the guest of honour.
