Rupa, Aug 10: Subansiri United FC booked their place in the semi-finals of the Rupa Football League – Independence Cup 2026 after defeating Kutcho Phu FC 4-2 in an entertaining third quarter-final at Gyaptong Stadium, Rupa, on Monday.
The match, played on Day 17 of the tournament, saw Subansiri United produce a strong attacking performance to secure a convincing victory and move into the last four.
Bonison opened the scoring for Subansiri United in the 16th minute before Kutcho Phu FC levelled the match through Hemgougun, who converted from the penalty spot in the 37th minute.
Subansiri United regained the lead just before half-time when Jenish found the net in the fourth minute of added time.
The winners came out strongly after the break and extended their advantage in the 49th minute, with Bonison converting another penalty to make it 3-1.
Prosonanda then added Subansiri United’s fourth goal in the 59th minute, putting the team firmly in control of the quarter-final.
Kutcho Phu FC continued to fight and managed to score a late consolation through Nguki in the fifth minute of stoppage time. However, Subansiri United held on to secure a 4-2 victory and a place in the semi-finals.
Bonison was named Player of the Match for his impressive performance, including his two goals. He was felicitated by Karma Dorje Thongdok, General Secretary of the Rupa Tennis Club (RTC).
With the victory, Subansiri United FC have advanced to the semi-final stage of the Rupa Football League – Independence Cup 2026.
The Rupa Football League – Independence Cup 2026 is being organised under the theme “Say No to Drugs, Yes to Football”, with the tournament also promoting sports as a pathway towards discipline, leadership, healthy living and nation-building among young people.
Jointly organised by the Indian Army and the Rupa Town Club, the tournament has brought together 16 men’s teams, including formations of the Indian Army under the Kameng Sector, teams from across the northeastern states and a team from neighbouring Nepal.
The tournament also features six women’s teams, highlighting the growing participation and opportunities for women in football.
The competition is being held at the Gyaptong Regional Stadium, which features a FIFA-standard artificial turf, providing players with a quality playing surface for the tournament.
The RFL-Independence Cup 2026 was inaugurated on July 26 by Arunachal Pradesh Governor Lt. Gen. K.T. Parnaik (Retd.), and will conclude on August 15.
