Shillong, June 21: Meghalaya State League (MSL) champions Nongkseh Sports Social & Cultural Club (SS&CC) have continued their squad-building exercise ahead of the upcoming season with the addition of midfielder Aenam Jyrwa.
The signing is the club’s fifth since lifting the MSL 5 title earlier this month, a triumph that secured Nongkseh a place in the upcoming I-League 3 season and an invitation for the Durand Cup.
Nongkseh had earlier announced the signings of Dawanbiang Mi Passah, Skillful Tariang, Hame Wahlang, and Dawanchwa Carlos Challam.
While the club did not officially reveal the identity of the player when announcing the signing of jersey number 12 on its social media platforms, Meghalaya Sports has learnt from sources within the club that the latest recruit is Aenam Jyrwa. The fans, on the other hand, have also figured out the identity of the new player given that jersey number 12 has been donned by Jyrwa earlier.
Jyrwa brings considerable experience to the Nongkseh midfield, having represented several leading clubs in Meghalaya football, including Shillong Lajong FC, Mawkhar SC, Rangdajied United FC and Mawlai SC. He has also had multiple stints with Bengaluru United, featuring for the Karnataka-based side during the 2021–22 and 2022–23 seasons, and most recently, he played a key role in helping the club secure promotion to the Indian Football League (IFL)..
A product of the Shillong Lajong Youth Academy, Jyrwa was part of the Indian national team’s U-14 and U-16 set-up earlier in his career. The attacking midfielder has also represented Meghalaya in the Santosh Trophy. Widely regarded as one of the state’s promising midfielders, Jyrwa’s progress was affected by injuries, but he has remained a regular presence in Meghalaya’s domestic football circuit.
His arrival is expected to further bolster the midfield unit of Nongkseh, which has impressed throughout the recently concluded Meghalaya State League.
The Upper Shillong-based club created history by winning the fifth edition of the Meghalaya State League in their debut appearance, defeating Langsning FC 2-1 in the final at the SSA Stadium. Trailing at half-time, Nongkseh rallied through goals from captain Hardy Cliff Nongbri and substitute Shano Tariang to seal the title.
Nongkseh’s successful campaign also saw captain Hardy Cliff Nongbri named the tournament’s Most Valuable Player, while goalkeeper Guidle Syiemlieh took home the Best Goalkeeper award. Midfielder Kitboklang Pale was adjudged Player of the Final.
Nongkseh have been on an unprecedented run since 2025, first winning the SSA First Division 2025 cup, followed by SSA Champions Cup 2025 in December last year, then then 11th All India Chief Minister’s Gold Cup International Football Tournament in January this year in Sikkim, and then the 5th edition of MSL.
