Tura, Oct 18: Holybirth Sangma scored five goals as West Balalgre registered a commanding 6-2 victory over Rongbakgre SCCT in the Tura Football League (TFL) Super Division 2026–27 on Saturday, strengthening their bid for a place in the final.
Holybirth found the net in the 21st, 66th, 68th, 82nd and 89th minutes to deliver a remarkable individual performance. Krebirth Sangma was the other scorer for West Balalgre, finding the back of the net in the 11th minute.
Rongbakgre SCCT made an early impact, with Amsrang Ch. Marak scoring in the fourth minute before adding a second in the 30th. However, West Balalgre took control in the second half, with Holybirth scoring four times after the interval to complete the emphatic win.
Two Rongbakgre SCCT players, Mangrak M. Sangma and Chukam A. Sangma, received yellow cards during the match.
The victory lifted West Balalgre to second place in the league standings, with 12 points from seven matches. However, their final position depends on the remaining fixtures. Rongkhon Sporting, currently fourth with nine points from six matches, could overtake Balalgre if they defeat Boca Juniors in their upcoming encounter.
Chipakkore FC also remain firmly in the race for the final, sitting third with 11 points from six matches. They face Maram FC in their remaining fixture, and a draw would take them to 12 points, potentially putting them level with West Balalgre. Their superior goal difference of +10 compared with Balalgre’s +1 could prove decisive in the qualification race.
With crucial fixtures still to be played, the battle for the second final spot remains unresolved.
Boca Juniors remain on top with 13 points from six matches and remain in contention for further points with a game in hand, even as they have secured qualification for the final.
With the race for the remaining final spot still open, West Balalgre will have to wait for the outcomes of the remaining fixtures to learn whether they have secured qualification.
At the other end of the table, Rongbakgre SCCT and Araimile SCC have been marked for relegation in the latest standings. Rongbakgre have three points from seven matches, while Araimile have two points from six.
