AICHI-NAGOYA, September 29, 2026: Parveen Hooda delivered a composed and commanding performance on Tuesday, defeating China’s Li Shu 5-0 to storm into the women’s 65kg boxing final at the Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games.
With the semifinal victory, Parveen has assured India of at least a silver medal and will now fight for the Asian Games gold.
Competing at the Nishio Gymnasium, Parveen stayed patient in the opening exchanges, relying on measured movement and counter-punching before finding her opportunities. She edged the opening round 3-2 before stepping up the pressure and producing cleaner combinations as the bout progressed.
Li Shu struggled to match Parveen’s accuracy and consistency. The Indian boxer maintained her discipline, picked her moments and continued to land effectively, eventually earning a unanimous 5-0 verdict from the judges.
The victory marks another significant milestone in Parveen’s Asian Games campaign. She had already secured a medal by reaching the semifinals, but Tuesday’s performance took her one step further — into the gold-medal contest.
Parveen’s journey to the final also comes after a difficult period away from competition. Her bronze medal from the previous Asian Games was subsequently withdrawn after the International Testing Agency suspended her for 22 months over a whereabouts failure. Her return to the Asian Games podium contention has therefore added another dimension to her campaign.
Now, only one fight stands between Parveen and Asian Games gold. For India, her victory further strengthens a productive boxing campaign in Aichi-Nagoya. Parveen is through to the final. India is guaranteed silver. The target now is gold.
