AICHI-NAGOYA: As the countdown to the 20th Asian Games gathers momentum, HONOHON, the official mascot of the Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games, is set to embody the passion of athletes while showcasing the cultural identity of the host region.
HONOHON was created from the fiery passion that burns in the hearts of athletes, with its design drawing inspiration from the Shachihoko, the traditional guardian figure associated with Aichi-Nagoya.
The mascot’s name also has a strong connection with Japanese culture.
HONOHON is derived from “Honoho,” which is said to be the origin of the Japanese word associated with flame. The name evokes the image of fire rising high and burning brightly, resembling the shape of a rice ear — “ho” in Japanese.
To give the name a more approachable and friendly character, it was adapted into HONOHON.
The mascot therefore brings together two key elements of the Games — the competitive spirit and passion of athletes and the traditions and cultural heritage of Aichi-Nagoya.
With athletes from across Asia set to gather for the continental sporting spectacle, HONOHON will serve as a distinctive symbol of the Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games 2026, carrying the message of passion, energy and friendship throughout the Games.
