Shillong, Sept 16: Mawlai SC returned to the top of the Shillong Premier League (SPL) 2026 standings after playing out a goalless draw against defending champions Langsning FC at the SSA Stadium here on Wednesday.
The 0-0 result saw Mawlai move to 11 points from five matches, level on points with Shillong Lajong FC but ahead on goal difference. Mawlai have a goal difference of +7, compared to Lajong’s +1. Langsning remain third with 10 points.
Langsning started brightly and came close to breaking the deadlock twice inside the opening five minutes. Syed Ahmed’s header from an Allen Lyngdoh Nongbri corner took a deflection off a Mawlai player before striking the woodwork.
Ahmed then had another opportunity from the resulting phase of play, but a Mawlai defender managed to clear the ball before it could cause further danger.
The defending champions continued to threaten as the match progressed, but Mawlai’s defence held firm to preserve the clean sheet.

Langsning came closest to snatching all three points late in the second half when Samuel Phawa’s long-range effort struck the crossbar and dropped back into play.
Wadajied Kynsai Ryngkhlem was well positioned to meet the rebound but headed over the bar as Mawlai survived another close call.
The result keeps the title race tightly contested at the top, with Mawlai, Shillong Lajong and Langsning separated by just one point.
Nangkiew Irat will face Rangdajied United in the next SPL 2026 fixture on Thursday at 3pm.
