Shillong, Aug 8: KVS Happy Valley, KSO Shillong and Gorkha Association emerged among the champions as the Border Security Force (BSF), Meghalaya Frontier, concluded the district-level SPANDAN League-2026 Volleyball Tournament at the Indoor Stadium, NEIGRIHMS, Shillong, on Saturday.
The three-day tournament, organised under the Sports Authority of India (SAI) initiative and the BSF Diamond Jubilee celebrations, featured competitions in junior and senior categories for boys, girls, men and women. It aimed to promote sports, identify young talent and strengthen community engagement through sporting activities.
The competition witnessed enthusiastic participation in junior and senior categories for boys, girls, men and women, with teams displaying impressive skill, discipline, teamwork and sportsmanship throughout the tournament.
The closing ceremony was attended by Meghalaya Animal Husbandry & Veterinary and Arts & Culture Minister, Sanbor Shullai, as the chief guest. He was received by Inspector General of BSF Meghalaya Frontier Om Prakash Upadhyay, along with senior BSF officers and other dignitaries.
Speaking on the occasion, Shullai commended BSF Meghalaya for organising the tournament and providing a valuable platform for young athletes to showcase their abilities. He encouraged participants to continue striving for excellence in sports, emphasising that discipline, teamwork, dedication and perseverance are key qualities for success both on and off the field.
The minister presented trophies and prizes to the winning teams and outstanding performers while congratulating all participants for their enthusiastic involvement. He also appreciated the efforts of BSF Meghalaya in successfully conducting the tournament.
The tournament served as a competitive platform for young sportspersons to showcase their talent while promoting the values of sportsmanship, mutual respect, discipline and perseverance.
In a press statement, BSF Meghalaya said the successful completion of the tournament reflects its continued commitment to promoting sports, nurturing young talent and strengthening ties with the youth and local communities across the state through initiatives such as SPANDAN.
